Polly Norman was flooded with messages of support as she shared a sad update. The 23-year-old chef appeared on this year's series of BBC MasterChef: The Professionals which was fronted by new hosts Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Matt Tebbutt, who has since left the show.

The TV chef said "goodbye to my favourite person in the world" in a devastating admission on Instagram posted on Sunday. Polly was inundated with messages as she announced the death of her beloved grandmother, who had taught her how to cook.
In a lengthy post, she penned: "It’s with the deepest sadness that today I had to say goodbye to my favourite person in the world – my grandma.

She taught me so much. She taught me how to cook, and she is the reason I am who I am today. Everything I achieve will always have a little piece of you in it."

Polly continued: "She was the strongest, funniest person, with a clever wit that could make anyone laugh. She brought so much joy to everyone around her, and I’ll miss her more than words can say.

I’ll think of you every single day."

The MasterChef star concluded: "And whenever I raise a glass, it will always be to you. What a cracker of a life you have had, rest easy now. Cheers [heart emoji]."

She accompanied the post with heartfelt photo of her grandmother.

MasterChef contestant Georgia Davies wrote: "Oh so sorry to see this Pol! Thinking of you."

Another penned: "My deepest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time."

A third wrote: Condolences Polly. Be strong and raise more glass with more life awards."

Polly finished in the top 8, reaching the semi-finals of MasterChef: The Professionals 2026 as the youngest chef in the competition.
