Prince Louis’ iconic reactions returned with full force on Saturday (August 1) as the eight-year-old royal joined his parents and his older siblings for an action-packed family day out at the Commonwealth Games. While Kensington Palace had confirmed this morning that William and Catherine - known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when visiting Scotland - would attend day nine of the "Friendly Games", the appearance of Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Louis, eight, was kept firmly under wraps.

The visit marks a major royal milestone for young Louis. While his older siblings are seasoned spectators at major sporting events like Wimbledon and the Euros, today represents Louis’ first official attendance at a major international sports fixture. Prior to today, the young prince had mainly attended formal royal events such as Trooping the Colour and the annual Christmas church services, as well as a volunteering initiative during the 2023 Coronation celebrations.

The family of five took their seats inside a packed, 5,000-capacity arena at the Hydro for the high-stakes netball semi-final clash between World No. 1 Australia and Birmingham 2022 silver medalists, Jamaica.

Sitting between his siblings, Prince Louis provided plenty of entertainment off the court. During the tightly contested match, the eight-year-old was spotted looking distinctly less enthused, sporting a range of hilariously quizzical expressions that fans have come to love. Despite his subdued moments during the netball match, the young royal and his family received a rousing, warm welcome from the Scottish sports fans in the stands.

The mood took a lively turn later in the afternoon when the Wales family headed over to the track cycling events at the Velodrome, where they sat behind the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Sir Chris Hoy. Wearing a stylish bucket hat, Louis was clearly in his element as he cheered on the track cycling at the Velodrome. The eight-year-old royal beamed from ear to ear, clapping enthusiastically alongside his older siblings while the cyclists sped past the track.

Royal fans on social media were quick to share their love for the young royal, with one commenting on X (formerly Twitter): "What an adorable picture!!! His huge smile," while another said: "So cute!"
