Bombshell FBI documents show Donald Trump was probed for acting as a "Russian agent." Newly declassified files released by the White House reveal the FBI opened a secret counterintelligence investigation, codenamed Oxferd Comma, after Mr Trump fired then-FBI director James Comey in May 2017.
The inquiry formed part of the FBI's wider Crossfire Hurricane investigation into alleged links between Mr Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia. According to a White House official, the investigation examined whether the president was acting as an asset for Russia, despite the theory not being backed up by the evidence. The official said the case was opened following Mr Trump's decision to dismiss Comey and was later folded into Special Counsel Robert Mueller's wider Russia investigation, before ultimately being found to have "no merit" when that inquiry concluded.
