A Russian drone has struck a Ukrainian TV channel headquarters in Kyiv, injuring at least five people as journalists were broadcasting live, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Zelensky said the daytime attack was a "new page in Russian degradation", while photos shared by the president showed a partially collapsed building.

At least five people have been killed in overnight and daytime Russian strikes on Kyiv. A separate attack on a passenger train in southern Ukraine killed a female employee, officials have said.

Both countries had earlier agreed to halt strikes on each other's capitals for three days while US Donald Trump's top envoys visited Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend.

Referring to Tuesday's Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian TV channel We Are Ukraine, Zelensky said: "Today, Russia carried out a strike on the media, journalists.

"Russia must be stopped, and this is possible only through joint efforts," he added in a renewed plea to Ukraine's allies in Europe, the US and around the world.

We Are Ukraine has published footage which it says shows the moment the drone hit its newsroom.

"The footage confirms that this was not an accidental strike, but a deliberate attack targeting journalists," the channel said in a post on Telegram.

Earlier on Tuesday, air raid alerts warned civilians to seek shelter as Russian forces carried out missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, the local authorities said.

A series of explosions across Ukraine's capital overnight killed three people and injured another 25, the state emergencies service DSNS said.

Residential buildings were hit, including a five-storey house in the Solomianskyi district, while vehicles caught fire in the Podilskyi district.

People sought shelter inside a metro station in Kyiv during the overnight attack, something that is routine for residents protecting themselves during the ongoing war.

By Tuesday afternoon, the death toll had reached five people.

According to a BBC Verify analysis, Kyiv is suffering more daily air raid alerts than at any time since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.

In Russia, buildings were struck in the city of Saratov during a Ukrainian drone attack, its regional governor Roman Busargin said early on Tuesday.

The talks with Trump's top envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow and Kyiv ended without any major breakthroughs.

On Tuesday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a "constructive and very frank" talks on the phone, Moscow said.

The two leaders spoke for an hour, Putin's senior adviser Yuriy Ushakov said.

The Trump administration has not publicly commented, while Witkoff earlier had said that "substantive progress was made", without giving any further details.

Ushakov had said on Saturday that Trump's envoys were informed in Moscow about "the significant advances made by the Russian armed forces" on the battlefield and stressed that the Kremlin's "set objectives would be achieved".

Meanwhile, Zelensky said he expected the war to continue into the winter after meeting Witkoff and Kushner in Kyiv on Sunday - their first ever visit to Ukraine.

Zelensky told reporters they had agreed that officials from Ukraine, Europe and America would meet in the near future to continue discussions. He also called for a trilateral meeting with Russia and the US.

Putin has so far showed no sign of backing down from his maximalist demands, which included more territorial concessions from Ukraine.
