James Wessex turned 18 this week and no doubt had a blast celebrating it with his nearest and dearest. While it is not known how he celebrated his big day, he is likely to have been thoroughly spoiled by friends and family on this special milestone.
As he is now 18, James will be able to do things he wasn’t allowed to before, including drinking alcohol. However, unlike most 18-year-olds, he also has an important decision to make regarding royal titles.
When he was born in 2007, James’ royal parents Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie did not give him royal titles.
They also did not give his older sister, Lady Louise Windsor, royal titles.
In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Duchess Sophie once revealed: "We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living.
“Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles. They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”
With James turning 18 this week, the decision on whether or not to use HRH titles now rests in his own hands.
