
Armed police in an unmarked vehicle rammed a car and arrested multiple people allegedly on their way to Bondi Beach - just days after Australia suffered a deadly terror attack.
New South Wales Police said they received a tip-off that the men were potentially planning a “violent act”.
Counter-terrorism police handcuffed the men who were allegedly on their way to the beach where the terror attack took place.
The operation happened on George Street, Liverpool, in Sydney’s southwest area. In a statement, police said "they have not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack".
"A police operation at George Street, Liverpool, in Sydney’s southwest has concluded. Tactical Operations police responded to information received that a violent act was possibly being planned.
"Police subsequently intercepted two cars as part of the investigation. As investigations continue, seven men are assisting police with their inquiries.
"At this point in time, police have not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack," the full statement from New South Wales Police read.
At least 16 people were killed in a horror attack in the Bondi Beach area, Australia, on Sunday morning.
An alleged gunman who, alongside his father, reportedly opened fire on crowds at Bondi Beach has been hit with 59 charges from police.
His father Sajid Akram, 50, was gunned down by police officers. Naveed sustained injuries and was arrested at the scene.
Officials confirmed on Wednesday that he had emerged from a coma and would face charges once his medical condition permitted.
