
One of Europe's airports is set for a huge upgrade which could increase its capacity to 90 million passengers a year. Located in Spain, this airport is already a hub serving one of the country’s major cities.
The Adolog Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, in Madrid charters a huge 352,000 flights a year for a huge 50 million passengers. But new plans to increase its capacity have been announced. Its managing company, which is also in charge of El Prat in Barcelona, is set to expand the aviation hub.
Plans hope to see the airport become the largest in the EU. At present, the airport is already the biggest and busiest in Spain.
The airport provides Madrid with economic support, and it contributed 9.7% of the city's GDP, reports Time Out.
Plans suggest the project should begin in 2031, with a huge 2.4 billion budget. Not only this, but a huge 60,000 jobs could also be created.

With five passenger terminals, Heathrow serves as the primary hub for British Airways and connects to over 220 destinations across 85 countries.
