
A 51-year-old man has died whilst swimming in the sea on New Year's Day, authorities have confirmed.
The incident took place just off Brighton beach, just after 10:30am on New Year's Day, with the air ambulance, RNLO and the ambulance service rushing to the scene, alongside the police.
He was recovered from the water, where paramedics administered medical attention, but it was later confirmed that he could not be saved.
Sussex Police issued a statement: "Police were alerted to a man who had been recovered from the sea after getting into difficulty to the west of Brighton Palace Pier at around 10.35am on Thursday 1 January.
A 51-year-old man from Kettering was brought to shore and received medical attention. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed."
A spokesman added: "The coroner has been informed, and the death is not being treated as suspicious."
