The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warning for fog on Thursday and Friday, affecting 20 regions. 

The forecaster said the warning will be in place from 10pm tonight (Thursday, January 14) to 7am tomorrow (Friday, January 16).

The full forecast read: "Fog patches will become more widespread and dense in places during Thursday evening with visibility falling below 100 m in places. Fog will thin and lift into low cloud late in the night or early on Friday morning."

North West of England, Wales, and West Midlands, are the areas more likley to be affected, the Met Office also added. Fog may cause some disruption to travel tonight, and people are being told to expect delays or cancellations to flights and sower journey times with delays to bus and train services.

The Met Office has also issued a long-range forecast starting on January 20. "Throughout this period, the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems attempting to arrive from the west while high pressure and colder conditions attempt to exert some influence from the east," it read.

"Initially, milder Atlantic air is expected to dominate. This should maintain often cloudy, changeable conditions with showers or longer spells of rain for most. The wettest weather in western parts of the country, drier in the east. Temperatures overall likely to be around average with some night frosts in clearer areas.

"Later in the period, there is an increased chance that conditions will turn colder. This aspect of the forecast is still somewhat uncertain but the potential transition to colder weather also increases the chance of snow across parts of the country."

Towards the end of this month, the Met Office added, the UK could also be hit by snow blizzards again.
