A suspected illegal immigrant abandoned his partner and baby as he made a desperate escape attempt from federal agents in Minnesota.

Border Patrol officers were captured on camera smashing through a passenger window of an SUV in Minnesota on Tuesday to reach alleged illegal migrants sitting inside.

After placing him and another man in handcuffs, they were put into the federal agent's vehicle, while a woman who seemed unable to speak English was seen sobbing as she held a young child, according to footage obtained by Freedom News TV.

Woman and child not taken into custody

The woman and the child were not being detained.

Officers left the rear door open, with the woman spotted moving towards the man to speak with him.

Moments later, the man climbed out of the vehicle onto the frozen ground and sprinted across the car park towards a busy multi-lane road while his hands remained cuffed.

Multiple agents were filmed pursuing him before he tumbled into a snowbank on the opposite side of the street. One officer landed on him to prevent his escape while a colleague assisted in bringing him back to the vehicle.

A Border Patrol car pulled up in the middle of the road to transport him.

Escape follows Arizona shooting incident

The getaway attempt happened on the same day a man in Arizona was shot by a Border Patrol agent. The unnamed individual remains in critical condition after reportedly being shot by a federal officer.

FBI Phoenix spokesperson Brooke A. Brennan told the Daily Mail in a statement that the agency is "investigating an alleged assault on a federal officer."

"The subject was taken into custody. This remains an ongoing investigation. No further information will be provided," she added.

Three shootings in recent weeks

The shooting occurred just three days after Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, was shot and killed by Border Patrol agents, and weeks after Renee Nicole Good was shot in Minneapolis by ICE.

Minnesota has become a focal point for immigration enforcement activities. The department has already sent more than 2,000 officers to the state in what it describes as its biggest-ever immigration enforcement operation.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem branded Pretti and Good 'domestic terrorists' and claimed her agents were acting in self-defense.

However, witness statements and relatives have challenged Noem's version of events.

Noem faces Trump scrutiny over handling

The internal criticism of Noem increased following the fatal shooting of Pretti, an incident she labelled an act of "domestic terror," bringing her into conflict with Trump.

The President grilled Noem over her handling and initial response to the shooting during their late-night meeting, according to reports.

By the end of the night, Noem was ordered to shift her focus away from interior immigration enforcement operations and instead concentrate on securing the Southern Border.

Noem's longtime rival, White House Border Czar Tom Homan, was ordered by Trump to take over the Minnesota crackdown.
