But Andrew was plunged further into humiliation this week after the US Department of Justice released a series of new documents relating to the late US financier. Some of these documents included disturbing pictures of Andrew on all fours, kneeling over an identified woman on the floor at an undisclosed location and various others revealed the level of association he had with the US financier, with one instance seeing him ask whether he [Andrew] could be his “pet”.

Now, a royal commentator has compared the latest Andrew scandal to the British horror series from the 1980s, Hammer House of Horror, saying it has left the King and the Prince of Wales facing a very difficult situation.

Royal commentator Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News: “Now we are seeing the modern-day equivalent of the ‘House of Horrors' with the image of Andrew on all fours, sending both King Charles and Prince William into apoplexy.”

Being mentioned in the Epstein files does not suggest any wrongdoing; however, Andrew’s continuous presence has sparked public outrage.

Andrew has not commented on the new files. The former prince has always denied any wrongdoing.

It comes hours after police confirmed that they are assessing allegations against Andrew for an alleged sexual encounter with an Epstein victim.

Lawyers representing a woman, who has alleged that she was sent to the UK for a sexual encounter with Andrew at Royal Lodge in 2010, have urged the King to contact them, as Brad Edwards, from the US firm Edwards Henderson, previously told the BBC his client had spent the night with Andrew after being given a tour of Buckingham Palace.

The woman’s allegations would mark the first time such an encounter with an Epstein survivor has taken place inside a royal residence.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Thames Valley Police said: “We are aware of reports about a woman said to have been taken to an address in Windsor in 2010 for sexual purposes.

“We are assessing the information in line with our established procedures. We take any reports of sexual crimes extremely seriously and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

“At this time, these allegations have not been reported to Thames Valley Police by either the lawyer or their client.”
