No matter what you plan on doing, Scarborough is the perfect place for a relaxing beach holiday as there are many specular sights, rich history and fun attractions to choose from at England’s most beautiful seaside resort.

Fish and chip fans have a new must-visit spot in a town in North Yorkshire, since a 2025 ranking crowned it the UK's 'chip shop capital.'
With 93 establishments, this town has 85.4 fish and chip shops per 100,000 people, according to the Finnish company Suomikasinot, more than any other authority in England.
The high concentration of chippies isn't surprising, given the town's harbour landscape and bustling fresh fish market. In Scarborough, it isn't uncommon to find cafes that serve seafood, or to see the country's most famous dish served in varying degrees of refinement - from indulgent takeaways to fine dining.
The top-rated restaurant on TripAdvisor, Catch 55, is described as an inviting spot with reasonable prices for food reviewers call "wonderfully cooked." One reviewer went as far as to say "it would be a sin not to visit Catch 55" if you're around. Another warned to "beware, as portions are huge."

And for quick bites, tourists recommend stopping by North Bay Fisheries, a traditional spot with "really good portion size, nothing greasy or oily," according to reviewers. There, visitors say "the fish tasted fabulous and fresh. Good value for money and would definitely return."
We've already established why foodies would like the place, but before the shiny new title, Scarborough has always been known for its other attractions. The town boasts harbour views and two sandy bays, as well as historic landmarks, and family-friendly attractions.
If you're planning a visit and want to experience local culture, top activities include exploring the coastal Scarborough Castle ruins and enjoying the North and South Bays - one known for colourful beach chalets and calmer vibes, and the other with amusement arcades and a lively atmosphere.

To chill around town, visit the Oriental-themed Peasholm Park, or see a show at the outdoor Scarborough Open Air Theatre. If travelling with kids, SEA LIFE Scarborough might be worth a visit.
The surrounding Marine Drive offers two miles of a scenic walking route around the castle headland, and, similarly, the Cleveland Way is known for stunning cliff views.
Additionally, set aside time to visit Britain's biggest miniature railway, a historic locomotive attraction along Scarborough's North Bay. After all of those activities, of course, don't forget to wrap up your day with the portion of fish and chips of your choice, from the simple classics to high-end variations.
The town has long attracted the plaudits. It was named one of the top destinations to visit in the UK by Time Out magazine in 2023 and has also been described as the “most beautiful seaside resort in England” by CN Traveller.
Heaping on the praise the magazine added: "The dramatic castle occupies the headland which separates the two main bays – steep cliffs stretching away in both directions. The old town ascends the slope to the castle in a maze of crooked streets, with buildings dating back to Tudor times.”
The town's Open Air Theatre has also become famed for hosting some big-name gigs from Madness, to Fat Boy Slim and even global star Will Smith will make his way to North Yorkshire for a gig in August.
