Style

The sequel to the 2003 fashion favourite The Devil Wears Prada lands in UK cinemas tomorrow (May 1), and its stars have been fully embracing the glam at screenings and events this week. Leading lady Anne Hathaway has, of course, been serving look after look, which is perfectly on theme for a film rooted in the world of fashion journalism. But at a Cinema Society screening in New York City on April 28, it wasn’t just her outfit that caught my attention. One particular accessory really stole the spotlight.

Anne paired a striking red dress with a leopard-print coat (a bold combo, but one that's right on brand) and finished the look with a cherry-red Aspinal of London handbag. If it looked familiar, you’re not imagining things: Princess Catherine owns the very same style. For anyone new to the brand, Aspinal of London is a British luxury label best known for its beautifully crafted handbags, though it also offers purses and other accessories. It’s a firm favourite among royals like Princess Catherine and Zara Tindall, as well as A-listers including Gigi Hadid and Jennifer Lopez.

The Midi Mayfair is one of Aspinal’s signature designs. It’s instantly recognisable thanks to its structured silhouette and elegant top handle. While it comes in a wide range of colours and finishes, Anne went all in with a glossy cherry red croc print in shiny full-grain leather.

If you like it, you’re in luck, her exact Midi Mayfair is still available, though it will set you back £695. There’s also the Mini Mayfair at £550 if you prefer something more compact (though sadly not in that same cherry red), as well as a larger version priced at £750 if you need a bit more room for everyday essentials.

Yes, it’s an investment, but it’s one that will work hard in your wadrobe. The Midi Mayfair transitions seamlessly from day to night, thanks to its clever design. Carry it by the top handle for a polished feel, or clip on the detachable strap to wear it crossbody for a more relaxed, hands-free look.

The details are what really elevate it. Aspinal’s signature shield lock gives a nod to the brand’s heritage, while the gold-tone hardware adds an elegant touch. Inside, it’s just as practical as it is pretty, with two roomy compartments separated by a zipped section – perfect for keeping everything organised. It’s all finished with Italian grosgrain lining, which adds that extra luxe touch.

And if bold cherry red isn’t quite your thing, take a cue from Princess Catherine, who owns the same Midi Mayfair in a sleek black croc finish. A black handbag is a forever piece that's effortlessly versatile and guaranteed to go with just about everything. The exact style she carries is still available, retailing at £695, making it a timeless addition to any wardrobe.
