While large parts of the UK have been enjoying warm and sunny weather, it looks like summer isn't here yet. According to brand new weather maps, several counties are set to be soon affected by subzero temperatures of up to -4C. The WX Charts for 6am on Thursday, May 7, shows a blue plume of cold air descending from the north, primarily targeting high-altitude regions and northern counties, but stretching its reach far enough to bring a biting chill to at least 20 different counties.
The most intense blue on the map, indicating a bone-chilling -4C, is expected to be concentrated in the Scottish Highlands, specifically across the Cairngorms and the Ben Nevis range. Temperatures of -2C to -3C are also set to grip the high ground across the Lake District and the North Pennines.
Separately, the Met Office's long range forecast for the period of May 4 to May 13 reads: "A mostly settled start to the period looks likely with many areas seeing a good deal of dry weather.
"That said we are unlikely to see a return of the completely dry and warm weather we have see in recent days, with clear or sunny periods and showers more likely.
"Toward the latter part of the period a trend toward more changeable weather is favoured although there should still be some drier intervals.
"Overall temperatures likely close to or a little below average at first, especially in the north, then returning close to average or rather warm later."
