Peter Kay was quickly ushered off stage as his stand-up show was cancelled just 45 minutes in. The comedian had started his performance at the Utilita Arena Birmingham at 8pm on Friday, May 1, but the show was cancelled just 45 minutes in. There had been "no explanation" nor warning that anything was wrong prior to a member of the production team walking on stage to inform everyone that the show would not be continuing.

Birmingham Police have now confirmed that they are carrying out an evacuation at the Utilita Arena after a "potential suspicious bag was found". They wrote on X: "A 19-year-old man is in custody and as a precaution the site is currently subject of a search. We will provide further updates when we can."

Videos have since started circulating on X with thousands of people standing up to leave the arena after being informed that the show had come to an end. One user posted on X: "Peter Kay was taken off stage before the end of his performance at the Utilita Arena Birmingham, and attendees have been asked to leave the building."

Another person wrote: "Peter Kay gig in Birmingham has been cancelled 45 minutes in. Peter Bundled off stage and the venue evacuated. Police on site. Stay safe, Birmingham."

Concern continued to spread on X prior to the police issuing the statement to confirm a potential suspicious bag was discovered, with users stating that the audience ws told they must evacuate the building "immediately".

No further updates have been issued from the police at this stage. People online stated that they managed to evacuate the arena "safely and quickly".

The show has been part of his national tour, which will see all profits donated to 12 cancer charities. The comedian is currently due to play the arena at the same time again on Saturday night (May 2).

The comedian has already completed the first half of the tour, with shows set to continue until the end of July as he's set to travel to Belfast, Liverpool, Sheffield and Leeds to continue performing at various venues.
