Summer holidays are quickly approaching, yet many people find themselves exhausted upon returning, having tried to squeeze too much into their time away. If you're tired of needing a holiday to recover from your holiday, maybe it's time to consider the slow travel trend.

One of the best ways to embrace slow travel is by picking destinations that encourage relaxation and connection with nature, making walking holidays an excellent choice. Dave Mills, Chief Commercial Officer at Iglu Cruise said: "Walking holidays offer flexibility and adventure, teaching travellers to enjoy the present moment and savour their travel experiences. You can still see the sights, but a more leisurely pace can offer a more rewarding trip."

To help travellers find the perfect balance, travel experts from Iglu have compiled a list of top European city breaks that also boast truly beautiful walking trails. They used data from the outdoor app AllTrails to identify cities with the highest number of walking routes located within a 15-minute radius of the city centre.

One of the best places to enjoy nature whilst still getting the best out of your city break is Vienna in Austria.

Famed for its natural beauty, the city is home to 250 walking trails and 12 official hiking trails that are all easily accessible by public transport. These 12 tracks are all numbered for ease, making it easy to find them.

If you are looking for gorgeous views and a glass of wine or two then City Hiking Trail 1 is perfect. Starting in Kahlenberg, this seven mile walk boasts panoramic views of the Danube River. Walkers can wander through open vineyards - some of which even have pop up stalls where you can enjoy a glass.

Another popular choice is City Hiking Trail 9, which winds through lush woodlands and meadows before taking you along the boulevard in Leopoldstadt where you can explore the cafes for a lovely snack or meal.

City Hiking Trail 5 is another popular walk, located in Floridsdorf. This track is popular with locals and is located away from the buzz of the city. It spans six miles and features open fields and plenty of wildlife, including deer.

One holidaymaker said on Tripadvisor: "We just returned from a week in Vienna. Absolutely magical city. It looks like a city of fairy tales. I think it's more beautiful than Paris, and Prague. Gorgeous. It's clean and well-kept, and there is an incredible amount of beautiful architecture and art. Trip of a lifetime."
