Which is how I find myself stepping into what feels like something from a sci-fi film.

The door slams shut behind me with a metallic thud, sealing me into a chamber that feels more space station than spa. Freezing vapour coils around my body like ghostly smoke. Through the glass door, a digital timer begins its countdown.

This is cryotherapy - and here, they don’t do things by halves.

Inside the steel-lined chamber, the temperature is held at a lung-snatching minus 100 degrees. My breath sharpens instantly; each inhale feels like needles. My nostrils start to sting. Frost gathers in the air, tiny crystals catching the light like glitter. It is, quite frankly, brutal. And yet - exhilarating.

“It’s like standing alone in a freezing forest and coming out reborn,” says Mert, the lead physiotherapist, as I emerge, skin tingling and heart racing. “Your body doesn’t forget it.”

This three-minute “shock reset” has become a badge of honour among elite athletes and A-list regulars who flock here to reset, recover and recharge.

But the science behind this 'Longevity centre" is only part of the story.

From the moment you arrive, reality softens. There are no queues or check-in desks - just hot tea, chocolate-dipped strawberries and a seamless QR code welcome.

The lobby alone is breathtaking: a cathedral of marble and honeyed wood centred around a surreal frozen tree, its branches suspended mid-reach as though caught in time. Light floods through vast glass panels, illuminating lush planting and polished stone. There is no plastic - only texture, craftsmanship and quiet extravagance.

Outside, peacocks strut across immaculate lawns, their feathers flashing iridescent blues and greens in the Mediterranean sun, while a rare white peacock unfurls its fan like a bridal train. It’s clearly a favourite with guests - I had already spotted it on Instagram, being gently followed across the grass by Jason Statham’s four-year-old daughter Isabella during a recent family stay.

Cats weave between tables, and beyond them alpacas, ponies and goats graze lazily at Ali Baba’s Farm.

Despite running near capacity, the resort feels hushed and expansive - a sprawling playground designed to cocoon its guests.

Even elite footballers - including stars from Real Madrid - come here to train and recover. For those arriving in true A-list style, guests can even transfer by private helicopter, cutting the journey from the airport to just seven minutes.

And then there’s the golf.

Two championship courses stretch across 1.5 million square metres, fringed with maritime pines and brightly coloured purple verbena flowers. Fairways glow emerald under the sun, and floodlit holes allow play into sunset. Legends including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have both teed off here.

“People come for the luxury… but they return for how it makes them feel,” one staff member tells me.

My suite on the fifth floor frames the Taurus Mountains on one side and the Mediterranean sea on the other. Inside, it’s all serene indulgence: a freestanding bath, walk-in shower and vast dressing room - even a mischievous sign under the bed reads: “Yes, we clean under here too.”

Food here is theatre.

At Daphne, the main buffet restaurant, chefs cook filet steak fresh in front of you while platters of seafood, oysters and vibrant salads spill across counters. Across the estate, including its neighbouring sister hotel, Regnum Carya, there are an astonishing 65 restaurants, bars and lounges operate with seamless precision - each delivering beautifully crafted dishes that feel curated, never mass-produced.

Nowhere is that more striking than the coffee lab, where delicate glass baubles linked by slender tubes gently bubble and drip as baristas craft each cup with almost hypnotic precision. The menu here reads like a global tour, from rich Spanish lattes to earthy matcha and golden turmeric blends. For the more sweet toothed there are indulgent taro, toffee and pumpkin spice options.

Outside, the resort reveals its full theatrical flair. One of its standout features is a vast pool with a dramatic man-made cave at one end. Swim towards it and you pass beneath a rock-like overhang into a shaded grotto, where a circular opening above lets sunlight stream through as water pours down into the pool. It is both eye-catching and calming - a feature that draws you in and invites you to linger. Beyond this, infinity pools stretch towards the horizon.

Perched on the rooftop, a glass-walled gym looks out across the Taurus Mountains and the Mediterranean, while just beyond it an infinity pool stretches right to the edge, framed by elegant sunloungers and white-draped canopies beneath wooden ceilings - all set against sweeping, uninterrupted views.

By night, Nuage - “cloud” in French - offers panoramic dining under the stars.

A professionally equipped amphitheatre hosts glittering performances, including small shows for children only, while elsewhere a floating stage rises from the centre of a lagoon like something from a film set.

Despite all the glamour, the resort remains family-friendly, with a vast kids’ club that feels like a world of its own. There are Lego rooms, a cinema, workshops and quiet spaces to relax, while outside there is plenty of room to run, play and explore. For younger girls in particular, there is even a pink-hued “princess spa” complete with mirrors, soft lighting and pampering treatments designed to make them feel like mini pop stars getting ready for a show. Teenagers are not forgotten either, with their own gaming zones, VR headsets and chill-out areas, giving parents the chance to properly switch off.

Back inside, the longevity centre adds another dimension - but it never overwhelms. Cryotherapy may be the headline act, but it’s just one of a suite of treatments designed to help you feel better, sleep deeper and recover faster.

Technology inspired by space exploration sits alongside more traditional therapies - from hypoxia training that simulates high altitude to infrared pods that cocoon the body in warmth. There are also more advanced treatments on offer, including G-Vac therapy designed to boost circulation and recovery, and a 'detoxification dome' where infrared heat envelops the body to repair muscles and rejuvinate the skin.

“It’s about optimisation,” says Mert. “Sleep better, recover faster, think clearer.”

Then there is Satori - a hypnotic sound and vibration experience. Sitting in a heated chair, headphones on, deep frequencies ripple through your body as waves crash and forests whisper. This is designed to alleviate stress and help with sleep problems. I went in feeling cynical. Twenty minutes later, I open my eyes in a haze and deeply relaxed.

“That’s the point,” I’m told. “You went somewhere else.”

Back in the cryotherapy chamber, as the final seconds tick down, I focus on my breath. Cold air burns. My body hums with life.

And suddenly, it clicks.
