Former Top Gear star Paul Kerensa was rushed to hospital after suffering a medical emergency at the weekend, his agent has confirmed. The 47-year-old comedian and writer, who worked on the motoring programme from 2016 until it ended in 2023, suffered a medical emergency over the weekend and is now recovering from the comfort of his own home. His agent, Nick Ranceford-Hadley, confirmed to Chortle that he has recovered sufficiently this afternoon (May 15), as he took to Bluesky to issue a health update for his fans.

He wrote: "Medical update: I've had a stroke. I couldn't stand; balance and coordination were affected; relearning to walk will take time. Excuse the delay in replying to things + changes to gigs/worklife." Despite his horrific illness, the writer is looking to the future and how it has changed since his stroke.

He added: "Onward: Therapy, meds, patience, rest, recuperation + putting one foot in front of the other." Sketch comic Gemma Arrowsmith, with whom he has worked on various BBC radio shows, was among those to shower him with well-wishes online.

Known for his work on beloved BBC sitcoms such as Not Going Out and Miranda, the broadcaster has become a committed chronicler of the BBC's origins in recent years. He has also been on a mini-tour of his stand-up show about the corporation.

The broadcaster was also the winner of ITV's Take The Mike Award in 2002. He took six shows to the Edinburgh Fringe between 2005 and 2015 and has written on more than 100 episodes of Not Going Out since it began in 2006.

Winner of a British Comedy Award for Miranda, in which he also made a cameo appearance as a customer in her shop. His other credits included Dead Ringers, The Now Show and The News Quiz, as well as writing lines for The Royal Variety Performance and working with Chris Evans on TFI Friday and Top Gear.
