Sadiq Khan has presided over a decade of failure in the capital with the city having been wracked with strikes since he took office.

The Mayor of London, who is now the longest serving boss of the city in the post's history, was elected to an unprecedented third term in 2024 and has even hinted at running for another three.

If he does so it would mean Sir Sadiq could be mayor until 2040. But a new report argues that he has failed as Mayor, brands Sir Sadiq's tenure as a "monument to failure".

The damning report slams his housebuilding record, and points to how the Mayor has only built 2,600 of the 35,000 homes in his latest program of works.

And, in a week powerful transport unions threatened to bring the capital to a standstill, the report states that Sir Sadiq promised zero days of such action when he first ran for office.

But since entering City Hall in 2016, there have now been 150 days of strike action - costing the capital billions.

At the same time, Londoners are now forking out 80% more in the Mayor's share of their Council tax, as police cuts bite, and crimes like phone theft explode across Britain's first city.

City Hall Conservatives, who compiled the report, argue that the "only positives" Londoners will be able to take from the Mayor's time in office is the amount of spending schemes which "siloed taxpayer money into bodies, boards, quangos, and commissions."

Susan Hall, the Conservative Party's leader in London - and Sir Sadiq's former Mayoral rival - told the Daily Express that it was "deeply regretful then that the tenure of Sir Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London will be nothing more than a monument to failure."

She added that his 10 years in office should be written down as "forgotten, lost decade where opportunities to shape the future of our city forever were squandered."

Ms Hall blasted: "Well, when the obituaries on this sorry episode of civic leadership are written, let the epitaph read ‘Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.’ Anything else will have been window dressing for a useless Mayor."

But the Mayor of London disputed the claims made by the report. His office listed a series of policies, such as taxpayer-funded school meals, the superloop bus and the Ultra-Low Emissions Zone as part of Sir Sadiq's achievements.

A spokesperson for the Mayor said: "The Mayor is hugely proud of what has been achieved over the last 10 years. From delivering free school meals to all state primary school children to cleaning up London’s toxic air almost 200 years ahead of predictions, investing record sums in the policing and tackling the causes of crime, and introducing the Hopper bus fare, he has been committed to improve the lives of Londoners.

"These are life-changing initiatives and accomplishments that have been delivered despite the previous Government’s disastrous legacy of austerity, and the Mayor continues to work hard to build a fairer, safer and more prosperous London for everyone."
