Summer is almost here, and that means that millions of people are likely planning their summer holidays. If you’re one of those people, you can’t go wrong with Italy. There is so much to see and do in this gorgeous country and it’s home to some of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.

It has plenty of coastal and countryside routes which connect the stunning cities across Italy. Train company Rome2Rio has analysed search data to find some of the most popular and beautiful train journeys for holiday makers.

One of the best is the Milan to Lake Como journey, which connects the fashion capital to the serene lake shores of the Lake.

The ride takes under an hour and costs between £5 and £15 - perfect for daytrippers on a budget.

The journey takes you from the hustle and bustle of Milan to the famous playground of the rich, where you can see some of the most gorgeous scenery in Europe.

Travel influencer Fatimah, who posts her travel tips on Instagram, took the train from Milan to Lake Como and said in a video that it offers “beautiful views”.

Fatimah recommends getting off the train at Varena before walking down to the scenic shores of the lake.

You can wander through the narrow passages, sample delicious gelato and have a coffee at one of the many beautiful cafes.

From Lake Como you can also take a ferry across the lake to Bellagio, also known as the Pearl of Lake Como.

The short ferry journey offers more beautiful views of the lake and the villages dotted along its shores - a perfect photo opportunity.

Bellagio is another charming village where it’s easy to spend a few hours, trying some of the local restaurants and bars before catching the ferry back to Varena and hopping on the train back to Milan.
