Fans longing for a popular Death in Paradise character have been recommended an ITV series that could fill the void. Actor Ben Miller, who played Detective Richard Poole in the BBC series, still has fans longing to see more of him despite his departure from the show in 2014.

Since then, a number of other detectives have filled his shoes, including Kris Marshall, who played DI Humphrey Goodman, and the latest, DI Mervin Wilson, played by actor Don Gilet.

But in a recent Reddit post, one fan suggested another programme that could help fans who miss Richard. In a thread titled "I miss Richard," one user responded, "I think loads of us do."

Sharing their recommendation, one user then wrote: "Try 'Professor T' on ITV." With another replying, "It's fantastic."

Someone else added, "He's my favourite detective."

Professor T is a British crime drama starring Miller as the brilliant but eccentric criminologist Professor Jasper Tempest from the University of Cambridge.

The series also stars Emma Naomi, Barney White, and Frances de la Tour. Adapted from the popular Belgian drama of the same name, the show follows Professor T as he uses his exceptional analytical skills to assist police investigations while managing life with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The series first debuted on BritBox in June 2021 before airing on ITV later that summer, with a US release on PBS shortly afterward. There are currently four series that fans can enjoy, with series five being filmed this year.

Miller starred as DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise for just over two seasons before the character met an untimely end in the opening episode of series three. Richard was killed during a reunion event by one of his former university acquaintances, leading to the arrival of DI Humphrey Goodman.

Over the years, he has spoken candidly about his reasons for leaving Death in Paradise. The actor departed the series in 2014 as he wanted to spend more time with his family, particularly as he was preparing to become a father and hoped to avoid the strain the long-distance filming schedule placed on his relationship.

He previously told Digital Spy:"Two weeks after I arrived in the Caribbean, Jessica found out that she was pregnant. I've just got divorced, and I've finally met somebody, and now I'm on the other side of the world, and we're having a baby.

"That's a proper curveball to be on the end of. So I knew what I had to do to get my wife back - quit Death in Paradise!"

Professor T is available to watch on ITVX.
