The harrowing audio of the 911 call to service James Handy's house following the Top Gun: Maverick star's death at the age of 81 has been released. The actor was fatally stabbed and the suspect called 911 to confess.

Handy, 81, was killed in Tarzana, California, on Wednesday, June 3, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed in a news release obtained by PEOPLE. Handy's girlfriend's son, Michael Gledhill, was identified as the suspect.

Police responded to a disturbance at the Hollywood actor's home after a person called 911 reporting "unknown trouble". In the audio obtained by PEOPLE, the person issued a chilling three-word comment saying he'd killed the "man of sin".

According to the publication, the person told dispatchers, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin."

Authorities discovered Handy unconscious in his front yard suffering from a stab wound in his chest.

He was transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gledhill, 44, was arrested and transported to Van Nuys Jail. He was charged with one count of murder, and his bail was set at $2 million, according to the jail records obtained by PEOPLE.

Handy was born in New York and appeared in a string of films and TV shows over six decades, often as a supporting character or for a small number of episodes.

The actor racked up a string of credits including NYPD Blue, K-9, Law & Order, CSI: NY, Logan, Alias, Castle, NCIS, The West Wing, Arachnophobia, The X Files and Murder, She Wrote.

His most recent appearance was in 2022's Top Gun: Maverick, in which he played Jimmy, a bartender who works with the character played by Jennifer Connelly, Tom Cruise's love interest.
