A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following a stabbing in east London. Metropolitan Police officers were called to Pankhurst Avenue in Silvertown at approximately 9am on Friday, June 5, to reports of a stabbing.

Attending alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, officers found a 35-year-old man with stab wounds in the garden of a property located near Rayleigh Road, police said. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man was sadly pronounced dead on his arrival at hospital. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, the Met said.

Another man, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds. Police said he remains in hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

The murder probe has been launched by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, the force said on Friday evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who has died.

“I know that the community will be understandably concerned by the incident. There remains a large police presence in the area, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak with officers at the scene.

“Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our enquiries are continuing at pace. I would ask anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with police.”
