Fans of Westerns can’t sleep on one hit TV series that has arrived on Netflix.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is streaming on the platform and is based on the life of one of the first black Deputy Marshals in America, and also the first two books from the Bass Reeves trilogy by Sidney Thompson.

The show was created by Yellowstone and Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan and charts Reeves’ journey to becoming one of the greatest frontier hero in American history.

Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves was intended to be an anthology series exploring other iconic lawmen and outlaws who impacted history.

The show was led by British BAFTA-nominated star David Oyelowo as the eponymous hero, with the Silo and Selma star going on to be nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves also starred Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Dennis Quaid, Grantham Coleman and Donald Sutherland.

Oyelowo’s real-life actress wife Jessica Oyelowo also had a role in the show, alongside Garrett Hedlund, David Lee Smith, Margot Bingham, and Rob Morgan, among others.

The series has been praised after it previously launched on Paramount+ back in 2023.
