A major 70s pop sensation has been rushed to the hospital, leaving fans worried for their health. Mungo Jerry's Ray Dorset has revealed he was taken to A&E in a worrying health update, thanking the medical staff who looked after him. His band, Mungo Jerry, is best known for its worldwide hit, In the Summertime.

On Monday (June 8), the 8-year-old musician took to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share that he was rushed to Bournemouth hospital following a recent surgery. He told fans: "Once again, I have been taken by ambulance to Bournemouth hospital following my recent surgery."

He went on to reveal that, despite the medical emergency, many of the doctors and nurses were heard singing along to his hit track up and down the corridors. The dad-of-six added: "A few minutes ago, while lying on my back awaiting an ultrasound scan, I could hear a few nurses singing In The Summertime '.

"I said to myself, 'Oh no, I have been recognised', but I have to admit that I began chuckling despite the discomfort. What a day!" In the Summertime was Mungo Jerry's biggest-ever hit, selling six million copies in the first six months.

Since then, it has sold over 30 million copies. His debut song, written and composed by Ray, has been a summer classic since its 1970 release. Fans of Ray expressed their concern, flooding the comments section with well-wishes.

One fan penned: "Hope you are feeling better soon, mate, and more to the point, that they get to the root cause. Great to see that that song is still alive and kicking after all these years!" Another agreed: "I too love the song; wishing you all the best!" as a third echoed: "Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Although Ray hasn't opened up on the details of his surgery and the reason why he was rushed to the hospital, he has previously opened up about how touring with IBS [Irritable Bowel Syndrome] has left him with a multitude of stomach issues. Sharing an update on his condition, Ray revealed: "Thanks again so much for all of the good wishes.

"I got back from the hospital in the early hours of this morning, & I have to be back tomorrow morning. All of the staff in the hospital could not have been nicer, so massive thanks to all of the staff at the Bournemouth Hospital."

Mungo Jerry had nine charting singles in the UK, including two number ones, In the Summertime and Baby Jump. Throughout their career, Mungo Jerry experienced several line-up changes, but Ray has always remained a constant.

Some of the most notable contributors to the band's success over the years include Paul King on the bass, Joe Rush on the drums, and Bob Daisley on the bass. It comes after Ray's bandmate, Plato Contostavlos, sadly passed away last year. The keyboard player, who was known as Steve, was loved within the music scene at the height of their fame.
