The exact location of the fire that broke out in London on Monday has been confirmed as smoke continues to the fill the sky in the capital. London Fire Brigade are urging people to avoid the area in Bermondsey.

The fire service has confirmed the blaze broke out at the recycling centre on Landmann Way. They added that 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters rushed to the scene at around 5.30pm. The are asking the public to "please avoid the area while the incident is ongoing". The fire service wrote in a post on X: "The fire in #Bermondsey is affecting a recycling centre. Due to the significant amount of smoke in the area, local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed."

London Fire Brigade said in a statement: "Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are tackling a fire at a recycling centre on Landmann Way in Bermondsey.

"Due to the significant amount of smoke in the area, local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

"Two of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders have been deployed to the scene to help fight the fire from above.

"Control Officers took the first of multiple calls at 1732 and have mobilised crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations to the scene."
