Iran has warned Donald Trump it will "create hell" if the US or Israel makes "another mistake" in the Middle East. The threat was issued by one of Iran's most senior security officials, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, who said the "satanic Zionist-American coalition" would face devastating consequences if it launched further military action against Tehran.

In a message carried by Iran's state-run Mehr News Agency, Zolghadr urged people to "look elsewhere than Washington and Tel Aviv for a credible threat", adding that nearly five decades of Iranian "resistance" had reshaped the global security order. He said: "Forty-seven years and 100 days of resistance – from the battlefield to the city square, from the city square to the arena of politics and diplomacy – have transformed the world's security order. If the satanic Zionist-American coalition makes another mistake, the region will become a hell for them." The remarks came as a fragile pause in hostilities between Iran and Israel appeared to hold after days of missile and air strikes.

Iranian officials have warned that any fresh military action by Israel or the US would trigger a tougher response, with Tehran also threatening "much more severe and crushing measures" if what it called acts of aggression continue.
