Jet2 has issued an urgent warning to British holidaymakers heading to - or who are already in - a popular destination.
With summer just around the corner, countless Brits are finalising their travel plans and looking forward to some well-deserved sunshine abroad.
Like many other travel operators, Jet2 regularly keeps its customers informed, and a new alert issued today (Wednesday) is directed at UK tourists already overseas or due to travel imminently, with the warning specifically targeting those visiting one of the Canary Islands.
Jet2 has warned there may be 'sudden road closures' and 'enhanced security measures' in place.
The update, in full, reads: "Due to Pope Leo XIV's visit to the Canaries, you may experience sudden road closures in Gran Canaria and enhanced security measures at Canaria Airport.
"Please allow sufficient time to get to the airport and to your departure gate.
"Check in closes 40 minutes before your scheduled departure time. All Jet2.com flights are expected to operate as scheduled, but if your flight does incur a delay, we will let you know by SMS, email, via the Jet2 App and on our website.
"We look forward to welcoming you onboard!"
Pope Leo's visit to Spain's Canary Islands, which have struggled to cope with a significant surge in irregular migration over the past decade, is expected to shine a spotlight on the treatment of migrants, according to local Catholic leaders.
