
Concerns are growing ahead of UFC Freedom 250 as a lightning storm is expected to hit Washington DC - and fans and fighters alike may be forced to shelter as the event takes place.
In an unprecedented move for the UFC, the event will take place outside, meaning those involved will be exposed to the elements.
Donald Trump is hosting the UFC to celebrate his 80th birthday and the nation’s 250th anniversary with an unusual White House event: a UFC show featuring seven fights within an eight-sided, wire-mesh cage on the White House South Lawn.
The UFC posted on X: "The gates for UFC Freedom 250 Fan Fest are open as scheduled. We anticipate inclement weather in the area, so attendees should plan accordingly.
"We will share information when available."
Associated Press is reporting that clouds are getting darker but there’s still no significant rain at the Ellipse, where a live band was still playing for fans when the broadcast’s 8 p.m. start time arrived.
Earlier, a message appeared on the video screens warning about possible bad weather and telling the crowd to be prepared to leave and take shelter.
