US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy after an awkward exchange with Brigitte Macron at the G7. A video has emerged showing him engaging in a "weird handshake tug of war" with her, as well as holding her hand for an unusually long time.

Commentator Aaron Rupar wrote on X: "Trump does his weird handshake tug of war with Brigitte Macron." The accompanying footage appears to show Mr Trump maintaining a firm grip on her hand throughout their exchange.

The moment prompted a significant reaction, with many deeming the behaviour "creepy". One person wrote: "Disgusting. Inappropriate gestures and mannerisms, too."

Another commented: "He grabbed and shook Emmanuel's hand quickly, but kept hers in a grip while she's clearly uncomfortable. Then she does this quick shake movement right after he lets go that's like she's shaking off the disgust."

A third questioned: "Why won't he let go of her hand when she wants to disengage?"
