Lizzie Cundy was left humiliated during the first day of the Royal Ascot after being turned away from the prestigious event because of her revealing outfit. The 58-year-old later issued a grovelling apology to those who were offended by the various suggestive cut-outs on her dress. The TV star's choice was largely modest, being a high neck, long sleeve and knee-high number, but the lacy number was also see-through and gave a nude illusion with the white cut-out detailing.

The former model paired the dress with a Saint Laurent clutch, a large white feather fascinator and matching heeled mules. Although she was photographed walking towards the annual races, Lizzie revealed she didn't make it into the star-studded event and said she was reprimanded for her look. The GB News commentator admitted: "Yes, I did get a rap on the knuckles, but actually the dress was way more conservative than things I've worn in the past."

Lizzie told the MailOnline: "It had a polo neck. However, if I have offended anyone, then I do apologise."

The Royal Ascot does permit guests to uphold its strict dress code, which prohibits sheer and revealing designs. The list of rules for women says that dresses or skirts must fall just above the knee or longer, whilst shoulder straps must be at least an inch wide. Any strapless or halterneck is not allowed.

Hats are mandatory, and trouser suits must be full-length and match in colour and fabric, whilst jumpsuits must also fall below the knee.

For men, a black or grey top hat is required alongside full morning dress in black, grey or navy as well as a waistcoat and tie.

The Royal Family were all in attendance as King Charles and Queen Camilla watched and cheered from the royal box, alongside Princess Royal and her newlywed son Peter Phillips and his wife Harriet Sperling.

The Queen’s son Tom Parker Bowles was also in attendance.

Just hours before arriving, Lizzie took to Instagram to share a racy snap wearing nothing but the facinator and a white lace bra.

Taking to the caption, she wrote: "Grace isn’t something you wear; it’s something you become… as well as a winner today. Get your hat and let’s go."

The TV star was inundated with responses for her famous friends, including Loose Women's Ruth Langsford, who commented: "Giddy up," with horse emojis.
