Yvette Cooper has told Sir Keir Starmer he must stand down, the Express understands. The foreign secretary delivered the message to the Prime Ministerover the weekend.

Sir Keir is currently away from Downing Street, staying at the prime minister's countryside residence, Chequers, with his wife and children.

Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle told Sky News he had not spoken to the PM since Friday - but at that time, he said they had a "frank conversation" about the challenges the PM is facing.

Sir Keir has said he is "thinking about my dad" today, as he used posts on social media to mark Father's Day.

The prime minister is currently at his countryside retreat in Chequers with his family.

But he is under increasing pressure to decide to step down as PM, following the election of Andy Burnham to parliament on Friday.

Sir Keir insisted on Friday he would fight any leadership contest, a line Downing Street has pointed to over the weekend.

But The Observer has reported that he may be considering resigning as soon as tomorrow.

Breaking cover for the first time today, Sir Keir said: "Being a dad is my greatest joy.

"Today, I'm thinking about my dad, and the father I am to my children because of him.

The PM also shared a photo of him graduating with his father.
