Jeremy Clarkson has confirmed he was rushed to hospital due to a “horrific” mistake during his treatment for prostate cancer. At the end of series five of Prime Video hit Clarkson’s Farm, Jeremy was seen being carted away from Diddly Squat in an ambulance, before he was pictured in a hospital bed. This came after he underwent surgery to treat his cancer.
Now Jeremy has explained that the treatment went “awry” after he resumed taking medication to treat his cardiac issues before he was supposed to. He told The Times: “That was horrific and it was all my own fault. I’d been on drugs for heart issues and I had to come off them during the cancer treatment. Two or three weeks after the cancer operation, I thought I’d better put myself back on those blood thinners. Big mistake, huge.”
The mistake ended up resulting in a “very big emergency” in the middle of the night, which was “beyond Defcon 1 on the pain scale”.
Jeremy described the procedure that came afterwards as “spectacularly painful”.
The former Top Gear star is now in remission from the “aggressive” cancer, explaining it could easily have spread to his pancreas or elsewhere in his body – but thankfully it was caught early enough to treat.
He underwent a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test two months ago, which showed no indication of cancer.
He urged other men to get checked, saying: “I’ve seen so many people die of cancer. It doesn’t bear thinking about what it must be like to live knowing that an illness is going to kill you.”
