Two men have been jailed after stripping bumpers, bonnets, wheel trims and headlights from cars across Birmingham. Mohammed Khan and Mohammed Haydar, both aged 23, were sentenced on Friday (June 26) after pleading guilty to conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles at Birmingham Crown Court.

West Midlands Police (WMP) said it worked closely with Birmingham City FC after fans reported cars being "cannibalised" while parked outside the club's St Andrew's stadium. Birmingham told the court in an impact statement that victims would often return following a match to discover "significant damage and theft". It said this was resulting in "substantial financial loss, inconvenience, recovery costs, insurance implications and considerable distress".

Video posted on social media by WMP shows Khan, of Croxton Grove, and Haydar, of Fernhurst Road, removing bonnets, bumpers and trims from cars across the West Midlands. In one clip Khan can be heard bragging about the crimes, saying: "This is the way to live, eh?". Haydar can be seen grinning along.

The crooks even filmed themselves in the act, posting the results on social media, and took photos of the stripped cars, boasting about what they did.

Police said the pair stripped vehicles within minutes in a crime spree spanning almost two years, from December 2022 to October 2024.

Detectives scoured hundreds of hours of CCTV and took forensic examinations to identify Khan and Haydar.

The court heard the total value of the thefts was around £500,000.

Det Cons Choudhury, who led the investigation, said in a statement: "Both Haydar and Khan were meticulous in their offending.

"They carefully planned each theft that they carried out, where they would cause serious distress to their victims who were left with vehicles without parts.

"Thankfully, we have been able to put together an extensive investigation which found both Haydar and Khan carried out almost 100 cannibalism offences, and now they will be spending time behind bars."

Khan pleaded guilty to 98 offences while Haydar pleaded guilty to 20. They were each jailed for four years and three months.

Judge George Lubega said while Haydar only accepted being involved in thefts amounting to £66,000, he had been a "leading player" in the conspiracy.

He said they had also offended while they were released on bail despite having been arrested numerous times.

Khan's counsel, in mitigation, she he had shown remorse while Haydar's told the judge he stopped after he got married.
