BBC star and stand-up comedian Luisa Omielan has been rushed to hospital with a brain injury. The 43-year-old was rushed to A&E three separate times, and diagnosed with a minor brain injury, along with Post Concussion Syndrome and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), after accidentally riding a Lime bike into a brick wall and breaking her nose.
In a recent update video, she told fans: “Just wanted to give an update. Everything is going to be fine, but I have had a minor brain injury and have been diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome and PTSD.” She said the hospital trips had “knocked her sideways”, and explained that her beloved dog Bernie is also suffering with her health: “My sweet Bernie is also having some health issues at the moment because we are twins and do everything together.
“She has been an absolute trooper and I am very lucky to have her and love her so much.
“One of the trickiest things is keeping going when life knocks you sideways. It’s just going to take a little time.
“These past few weeks have been incredibly challenging, but I’m grateful that there’s a clear path forward now. I just need to focus on recovery.”
She added: “I’m also very lucky to have my wonderful sister, who’s been gently pushing me through exposure therapy and encouraging me to try things again, one step at a time.”
Luisa has been forced to cancel several upcoming gigs and will take a step back while she recovers from the injury, adding: “A huge shout-out to the kindness of strangers. With everything that’s happened over the last four weeks, every time I’ve needed help, someone has stepped in.
“It has genuinely restored my faith in people. If you ever wonder whether to offer someone a hand, I’d always rather someone ask than walk past.
“I’m not creating much content right now or able to work. Many of you have asked how you can support me while I recover. If you’d like to, my Patreon has been a life line, it is my only income until I’m well enough to plan and deliver shows.
“I am so grateful to my gang for helping me through this time.
“Thank you all for the love and kindness, sorry to the audiences and venues I have had to cancel, I am gutted and want to come back ASAP.”
