A major update has been issued following the tragic death of young woman in a skydiving incident. Emergency services were called at a field near Skydive Langar on Sunday (July 5) afternoon, where a 22-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Skydiving, the regulatory body which manages the day-to-day safety of the sport, said it was also setting up an investigation into the "accident". The centre said its team were "devastated" by the loss of who they described as an experienced skydiver. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed they were investigating the "tragic incident".

A spokesperson said: "A British Skydiving Board of Inquiry will investigate the accident and once completed a report will be submitted to the coroner, the police, the Civil Aviation Authority, the British Skydiving Safety & Training Committee and any other relevant authorities.

"The report will include the board's conclusions and will make any recommendations if appropriate."

Detective Inspector Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, previously said: “This was a tragic incident, and we are working with partners to understand what happened.

“As our investigations continue at the scene, our thoughts are with the woman’s family and everyone else who has been affected by this incident.”

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 306 of July 5, 2026.

Skydive Langar confirmed the incident took place at their centre. In a statement, they said: "We are deeply saddened to confirm that a fatal incident occurred at our centre today involving an experienced skydiver.

"The entire team at Skydive Langar is devastated by this tragic loss. Our immediate thoughts, deepest condolences, and full support are with the skydivers family, friends and everyone within our close knit community who has been affected at this incredibly difficult time.

"We are working in full cooperation with the police, and all relevant authorities to support this process.

"We kindly ask for respect and privacy for the family, our staff and the wider skydiving community as we navigate this profound loss."
