Television personality Nick Knowles has confessed that featuring on a certain TV programme "didn't work out well for me" following his revelation about plans to "disappear" from the small screen.
The 63 year old ranks among British television's most popular presenters, with DIY SOS broadcasting on the BBC for a remarkable 27 years and still going strong.
Nick recently announced that he intends to step back from professional commitments to support his wife, Katie Dadzie, who needs urgent surgery.
In addition to his position on DIY SOS and game show Who Dares Wins, Nick has also featured on British television's two most prominent reality programmes, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing. However, he acknowledged one of those stints could have been more successful, reports the Daily Mirror.
Nick enrolled to take part in BBC flagship programme Strictly in 2024. He proved a well-liked participant with viewers, but circumstances deteriorated as he endured multiple injuries.
The host was matched with professional dancer, Luba Mushtuk, but damaged his arm and shoulder while replacing a punctured tyre ahead of the second instalment.
Soon after, he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while rehearsing for Strictly's third week. He received a bye that week but remarkably came back for week four, although he was eliminated, visibly hampered by his physical setbacks.
Speaking to Heat, Nick was questioned about whether there is anything he would be interested in doing on the reality television front.
He responded: "No. Strictly didn't work out particularly well for me because I damaged my knee. And it's taken me two years to come back from that."
Nick subsequently missed the show's grand final, which was famously won by blind comedian Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell. He was recuperating from two intensive, consecutive operations to reattach his bicep and fully reconstruct his ACL.
It comes after Nick disclosed he will "disappear from television" following his wife Katie's need for emergency surgery.
The 36 year old lingerie entrepreneur was rushed to hospital when her cervix ruptured after a hysterectomy, mere weeks after her marriage to Nick at Braxted Park Estate, Essex, in June 2025.
Katie has now been told she requires another major procedure, leading Nick to conclude he must stay at home to care for her.
Nick informed the Daily Mail's Richard Eden that he needed to "disappear" for a period: "I've been looking after my wife a lot because she has been through it. She's had a lot of tough times. She's got another operation coming up.
"I will disappear for a while because I'll be looking after her. I'm always worried (about her) but she's a warrior and a fighter, so I know she'll be fine."
Katie underwent a hysterectomy last summer after "years of pain" caused by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis and adenomyosis. Yet 12 weeks into her recovery, the stitches in Katie's cervix gave way, causing her "crippling abdominal pains."
Nick acknowledges that his time away from DIY SOS has afforded him the opportunity "to have more space for my wife". He revealed to Heat: "We've only been married a year, so spending more time together has been great."
