Sitcom star Louise Lasser, who was the ex-wife of Woody Allen, has sadly died at the age of 87. Her close friend Susan Charlotte confirmed that she died from natural causes at her home in Manhattan's Upper East Side on Monday (July 6). She was best known for her appearance in the comedy show Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

She was married to Allen from 1966 until 1970 and starred in several of his early films, including Take the Money and Run, Bananas and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask). Louise also starred in sitcoms like Taxi and HBO's Girls.

Louise went on to forge a long-term romance with film producer Michael Citriniti, who she is survived by.

The star also caused controversy in the early seasons of Saturday Night Live, with her 1976 episode often omitted from reruns, and with Louise reportedly banned as a host. She was accused of being incoherent on the broadcast and allegedly refused to appear in sketches with any co-stars other than Chevy Chase.

Tributes have flooded in for Louise, with her showbiz friend Renee Taylor writing: "My beloved MAID OF HONOR Louise Lasser passed away the most funny outrageously fun person I have ever known for over 60 years. I worked with her three times and I’m happy knowing she’s busy keeping God laughing forever."

One fan tweeted: "Louise Lasser died. She wrote & starred in my favorite romantic comedy Just Me and You. A low-budget, simple, kind 1970s film. Her co-star Charlies Grodin is excellent & DRYly hilarious. Perfect cast. They play off each other masterfully well."

Another agreed: "RIP Louise Lasser. An amazingly funny comedienne, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman was once appointment television But she made me laugh hardest with her portrayal of Alex's ex-wife on Taxi."
