Intense speculation has surrounded Donald Trump's health in recent years, yet one journalist has claimed the US President himself remains entirely unconcerned by it.

Trump turned 80 in June, and rumours regarding his mental and physical condition have been circulating ever since he secured victory in the 2024 Presidential Election.

His physician, Capt Sean Barbabella, declared that Trump is in "excellent health" following his annual medical examination in May.

The President's bruised hands and swollen legs have prompted concern and conjecture regarding his wellbeing, while questions have also been raised about his cognitive capabilities.

However, Michael Wolff, who has written four books about Trump, believes it is highly unlikely the President is dwelling on his own mortality, owing to a trait that "distinguishes him from the rest of humanity"

The debate was ignited during a recent episode of The Daily Beast podcast, where the publication's chief content officer, Joanna Coles, suggested that Trump has become "obsessed with death".

But Wolff remained unconvinced that such considerations would trouble the President significantly.

He said: "I just doubt that Trump really thinks that existentially about anything. And to the extent that he considers his mortality, it's to say he considers it as something that has no end.

"That there is no immediate mortality even for an 80 year old, and by immediate mortality I mean nowhere in the medium or even long-term.

"He is Donald Trump and that distinguishes him from the rest of humanity, and that is an element at all times of what's in his head."

Wolff's initial book on Trump, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, was dismissed as "trashy tabloid fiction" by then-press secretary Sarah Sanders.

However, the journalist maintains he undertook more than 200 interviews with Trump and his staff over an 18-month period.

Maggie Haberman, alongside fellow journalist Jonathan Swan, co-wrote a book entitled Regime Change about Trump's second term.

Speaking on The Bulwark podcast, Maggie was questioned by Tim Miller about Trump's bedroom habits. Tim observed that the description of Trump's bedroom, particularly the wrappers and ice cream tubs, appeared "disgusting".

Although the podcast host had remarked upon the Starbucks wrappers, Maggie acknowledged that this had been a now-corrected typographical error and should have read Starburst wrappers instead. Nonetheless, she proceeded to suggest that Trump's conduct gave the impression he was vying with his wife Melania Trump over which of them could secure the superior bedroom.

Maggie said: "When they came back to the White House, the Trumps wanted everything the way it was before, as if they hadn't left.

"And the Bidens, actually, on the décor front, didn't really change a ton of what the Trumps did, but Melania Trump was not there for the first several months and so Trump was picking items from the central hall in the residence that the staff believed she wanted where they were.

"To people who worked at the White House, it seemed like he was competing to have a better bedroom than his wife, and they don't have the same bedroom.

"In his bedroom he, among other things, had a carpeted bathroom, he was a late night snacker. Staff started monitoring the silverware because some was disappearing...into the trash. He lives how he lives."
