Jet2 has confirmed a seating change on flights from 2027 to make journeys more comfortable for passengers.

The budget airline has announced plans to fit its A321neo aircraft with new next-generation lightweight seats from early next year, with the change to provide “improved space and comfort” on flights. The change was announced as Jet2 published its preliminary results for the year ended March 31, 2026, which set out plans for continued growth and investment in future expansion. Jet2 acquired 146 Airbus A321neo aircraft during the Covid pandemic when aircraft and engine manufacturers were actively seeking demand.

The airline said this allowed it to secure the aircraft ahead of the recovery in consumer travel, rising inflation and supply chain disruption.

The move means it now expects to operate 31 owned and leased A321neo aircraft for the peak summer holidays this year, representing 22% of its total fleet of 139, and a further 124 of these aircraft are scheduled for delivery by 2035.

These aircraft are quieter and more fuel-efficient and the airline’s plan to fit lightweight seats next year will help to further reduce fuel burn, while providing a more comfortable experience for passengers.

Confirming the plans for 2027, Jet2 said: “For peak Summer 2026, we expect to operate 31 owned and leased A321neo aircraft representing 22% (2025: 17%) of our total fleet of 139.

“These larger gauge, more fuel-efficient, and quieter aircraft provide a 20% reduction in fuel and carbon cost per seat, equivalent to circa £10 per seat, as compared to our existing aircraft.

“With a further 124 aircraft scheduled for delivery by 2035, we are building a fleet that will materially increase operating efficiencies and support the Group’s long-term growth ambitions.

“In addition, from early 2027, we plan to fit our A321neo aircraft with brand new next-generation lightweight seats offering in-seat power alongside improved space and comfort.

“This investment will reduce fuel burn and further elevate our onboard proposition, demonstrating our disciplined approach to combining product quality, customer appeal and operational efficiency in a way that supports long-term value creation.”

The 2026 financial year marked a period of strong growth for Jet2, with record passenger numbers at 20.83 million (up 5% from 2027) and revenue increasing by 4% to £7,482.1 million.

This comes after the airline extended its footprint to 14 UK airports, with the launch of operations at London Luton and London Gatwick airports during the year, allowing Jet2 to advance beyond its “established Northern roots”.
