Beloved actor Scott Bryce has died aged 68, his son has confirmed. The star, who was best known for his role in As the World Turns, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.

His son Jackson Bryce confirmed on social media he had died on July 12, writing: "This evening my father lost his long-fought battle with cancer. What began as stage three oesophagal cancer eventually spread and became brain tumours that took his life away from him."

He continued: "Through radiation, chemo and immunotherapy, and every moment of pain, I watched my dad face it all with pride and courage, and an unshakable belief that somehow, everything would work out and he would win."

He added, "He supported me as far as a father possibly could. He was the loudest voice in the stands at every basketball game. He took me across the country to chase my dreams and would have done anything to see me succeed. Being my father was always his top priority. I am endlessly grateful God chose him to be my father, and I am so proud to be his son."

Jackson concluded: "When asked what he wanted people to remember about him, he said, 'I was a one-take actor. Two takes, max.' In working with Dick Wolf on NBC, directors would schedule him at the end of the day because they knew it wouldn't take long. Scott Bryce lived a life worth celebrating," his son said.

Bryce portrayed Craig Montgomery on As the World Turns, appearing alongside Meg Ryan. He featured on the programme at various intervals during the 1980s and '90s before returning to the role in 2007.

For his portrayal of Montgomery, Bryce received Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in both 1986 and 1987. He also secured two Soap Opera Digest Award nominations.

Bryce additionally had a recurring part on the Ryan Murphy dramedy Popular between 1999 and 2001, playing Mike McQueen, the father of Leslie Bibb's character, Brooke. Mike also becomes betrothed to Sam McPherson's mother, portrayed by Carly Pope.

His debut role came in 1988 as Rick Bonner in NBC's The Facts of Life. He subsequently made guest appearances on numerous programmes, including ER, The Golden Girls, The Blacklist, The Good Fight, and many others.
