The supermarket planned to shut Express stores at 7.30pm on July 19 if the Three Lions made it through to the World Cup final.
The major UK supermarket said: "Stores would close at 7.30pm to allow colleagues to get home for kick off."
The grocery shop warned that the store would stick to regular hours if the England squad were kicked out of the tournament.
After a last minute 2-1 victory at the hands of Argentina, the convenience store locations will now stay open until the later times of 10pm or 11pm.
A spokesperson for Tesco said: "If England doesn’t reach the final, stores will open and close at their normal times. Stores in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will continue to remain open in line with their usual hours."
The staff would have still be paid for the hours they did not work, despite the early closure time.
A full statement said: "If the England football team reaches the World Cup final, Tesco will close its Express stores across England at 7.30pm, instead of the usual 10.00pm or 11.00pm, to allow colleagues to watch the match which kicks off at 8.00pm.
"With stores closing early, thousands of Tesco colleagues will have time to get home or to the pub in time for kick-off, while still receiving their normal pay for those hours.
"As the match falls on a Sunday, Tesco’s larger stores in England will already be closed by the time the match kicks off. All stores will then reopen as normal the following morning.
"Express stores will still be open as normal during the daytime, so fans can stock up on pre-match supplies. Customers needing last minute essentials will also still be able to place orders with Whoosh until 11.00pm.
"All online Grocery Home Shopping orders already placed for Sunday evening will be honoured and delivered as normal."
