An iconic 70s musician has been declared missing after vanishing from a care home in the US. Linda Perhacs, best known for her pioneering work in the psychedelic folk genre in the 70s and for releasing the albums The Soul of All Natural Things and Parallelograms, hasn’t been seen or heard from in eight months.

The 82-year-old was discharged from a residential care facility “under the supervision of her legal guardian”, according to her friends. Her former manager Laurel Sterns, along with pals and fellow musicians Julia Holter, Mark McNeill and Jessica Hundley issued a plea on social media for any information relating to Perhacs.

The statement said: “Linda Perhacs fans, we need your help. Linda has gone missing. Legendary singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs was discharged from a residential care facility approximately eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian.

“Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have been unable to reach her and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered.

“If you have verified information regarding Linda’s wellbeing or current means of contact, please reach out.”

McNeill explained that a police report has already been filed, and the group has hired an elder abuse attorney to petition the state.

Perhacs had reportedly been living at the care facility for several years before her disappearance after being diagnosed with dementia.

Hundley told Rolling Stone: “The intention is not to intrude upon her privacy, but simply to ensure that she is safe and to re-establish communication with someone whose artistic contributions continue to resonate across generations.”
