A new homeowner has taken to social media to ask advice on a neighbour screaming at them after blocking off their parking space.
A user (@EXCSUK) shared on the LegalAdvice subreddit about her neighbour placing a skip on her drive while the neighbour’s house was being renovated.
The neighbour didn’t ask permission for the enormous industrial-sized skip, which even caused surface damage to the driveway.
She said: “The wife was immediately defensive and started to raise her voice, so much so the middle neighbour could hear it inside her house with the windows closed.
“I tried to de-escalate and explain what our shared access agreement covered but she kept calling me ridiculous and telling me to block off my path, and sue them.
“I ended up having to ask to speak to her husband, and while he was calmer and listened, it was clear he didn’t care and would carry on regardless.”
The builders doing the neighbour’s extension also parked behind the Reddit user and another neighbour’s cars, blocking them into the drive. Then, the following day, the neighbour’s son did the same.
“I wrote a Cease and Desist to place on the car and post through their letterbox,” the user said.
“But I thought better of it given the late hour. At 6am the husband text me to call a truce and say it had got out of hand. I replied that I agreed and hoped this would be the end of it.”
Over the course of the renovation, extensive damage was done to the Reddit user’s driveway and they continued to be blocked in by builders, which the neighbours said to take up with the builders.
One Reddit user suggested they follow Information Commissioner’s Office advice on putting up CCTV and another suggested they get in touch with her home insurance provider to ask for advice.
