Drivers warned of £400 fee that could hit motorists in UK’s 33C heatwave

Justin Hall, Engineering Supremo at IMO Car Wash has previously warned UV rays can cause major problems with damage to bodywork likely.

He explained: “A spell of warm weather is exactly what we need after a miserable start to summer, but if you’re a vehicle owner, then it’s important to remember that heat can cause damage to your car.”

“Powerful UV rays can cause the pigments in your paintwork to deteriorate, leading to discolouration, while high temperatures can cause your vehicle’s metal components to expand and contract, potentially resulting in warping and misalignment.

“Meanwhile, extended exposure to heat can cause minor cracks in your windshield and windows to expand, which could prove dangerous for unaware drivers.”

Experts at CheckaTrade have stressed that repairing bodywork damage can cost anywhere from just £70.

However, extensive paintwork damage can reach up to £330 a major blow for those on tight budgets.

BookMyGarage, the leading garage comparison site, has put the figure at closer to £400 while a full car respray could set owners back around £2,500.

However, Justin stressed high temperatures can also have drastic consequences for some of the most important components underneath the bonnet.

He added: “It’s not only cosmetic concerns that you should be aware of, with heat also impacting the performance of your car.

“Keeping vents and grills clear of debris is crucial for preventing electrical system failures and ensuring optimal cooling.

“Regular washing can aid this process by keeping the engine bay free from dust and debris, which is essential in preventing engine overheating.”
