Chaos erupted in Glasgow city centre as police sealed off a bustling street after a woman was hit by a car outside a local pub.

The emergency services swooped into action on Wellington Lane, just behind the Admiral Woods bar, at approximately 3pm on Tuesday, with reports of a major incident unfolding.

A swarm of police cars, accompanied by two ambulances and a pair of fire engines, were spotted at the scene. It is understood that officers have cordoned off a section of the street while they address the ongoing event.

Guarding the area, police presence is high as they stand watch over the cordoned-off zone. The specifics of the incident remain unclear at this time, the Daily Record reports.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “At around 2.40pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, a woman was struck by a car on Wellington lane, Glasgow.

“Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Road closures are in place on Wellington Street between Cadogan Street and Waterloo Street, and Wellington Lane is closed between West Campbell Street and Wellington Street.

“Motorists are advised to take an alternative route.”

Drivers have been warned to seek alternate routes due to the disruption.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: “We are currently in attendance alongside emergency service partners at an incident on Wellington Lane, Glasgow.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
