Don’t be disheartened if you have noticed your peace lily looks dragged down by life with wilting leaves, it can soon perk up in no time.
As a responsive plant owner, you need to know that droopy leaves are indicative of one common issue a peace lily faces – dehydration.
Gardening specialists Happy Houseplants revealed under watering can cause a peace lily to droop, so take those wilting leaves as sign the plant wants watering.
This can take as little as 30 seconds to resolve by simply watering the peace lily with purified water – but not straight from the tap (as the minerals in hard water can be harmful).
Only water if the first top inch of the soil feels dry, though, and do make sure the water can drain away from the bottom of the pot.
If the soil is adequately watered, but the peace lily is still dropping, the plant could require higher humidity.
Happy Houseplants explained: “Peace lilies are tropical plants and appreciate higher humidity levels. In dry indoor environments, their leaves may droop due to the lack of moisture.”
If you regularly mist the leaves of the peace lily, the plant will likely perk up. Placing a tray of water near the plant or using a humidifier in the room could also work.
When a peace lily plant has plenty of water and humidity, but its leaves are still dropping, then the plant could be suffering from overwatering.
Happy Houseplants elaborated: “One of the most common reasons for peace lily drooping is overwatering.
“Peace lilies are relatively low-maintenance plants and prefer to dry out slightly between waterings. The roots can suffocate if the soil remains consistently soggy, leading to drooping leaves.”
To remedy overwatering, the best thing you can do is to allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering your plant again.
It’s also best to make sure the pot you have your peace lily in has drainage holes to prevent water from pooling at the bottom.
One tip could be to only water your peace lily plant in the kitchen sink, for example, so excess water can drain away from the pot down the drain.
Even sunlight could impact the leaves; too much or too little can lead to droopy leaves. The solution? Place the peace lily houseplant by a bright light near a north or east-facing window.
