Meghan Markle’s one-word ‘demand’ on faux royal tour | Royal | News

A lipreader has described the one-word “order” that Meghan Markle is believed to have given to Prince Harry following their meeting with the Colombian Vice President.

Harry and Meghan were in Colombia this summer on what was described by some royal commentators as a “faux-royal” tour.

During one engagement, they had a breakfast meeting with Vice President Francia Marquez and her spouse, Rafael Yerney Pinillo.

Lipreading expert Nicola Hickling noticed the word Meghan said to Harry as they exited the building, according to the Mirror.

As they were making their way out of the building, the Duchess of Sussex is believed to have said “hand“ to which Harry replied: “Here you go.”

The tour was seen as a major success, with the couple undertaking extensive charity work and Meghan being praised for a speech which aimed to inspire young girls.

The couple spent time in Bogota, Cali and Cartegna as they undertook a variety of engagements from school visits, empowerment and tech safety panels, lunches and dinners with local leaders and representatives, and even an Invictus Games training session.

Nathan Kay, the Daily Express’ Royal Deputy Editor said: “Their attempts to carve out a new public identity have often been met with scepticism, and not without reason.

“However, this ‘quasi-royal tour’ of Colombia felt different. It was as if the Sussexes finally understood what it takes to leverage their global platform for good, rather than just for personal brand-building.”

The Vice President said in a news conference prior to the reception of Harry and Meghan that the visit sought to “build bridges and open doors” and to raise awareness and address a “problem that concerns all of humanity today: cyberbullying,” especially because of its impact on children.

In advance of the tour, the couple stated their goal was to “show up and do good, no matter where we are in the world” through their charity, The Archewell Foundation.

Although Harry and Meghan were hit with accusations that their huge security bills cost the country over £1.5 million, Colombian officials have insisted the pair financed the whole trip themselves.

El Pais reports that the Ministry confirmed the Sussexes covered their own travel expenses. A spokesperson from the Ministry said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex financed their trip and that of their team with their own resources.” International agencies are said to have helped contribute towards the costs.
