Iceland, Sainsbury’s and Tesco issue urgent food warning over popular product

FGS Ingredients Ltd has recalled three ready meals because they contain ingredients not listed on the packaging.

The items, which are sold in Iceland stores, could be a health risk for people with an allergy or intolerance to peanuts, and shoppers have been urged to return the products to their nearest store.

The Food Standards Agency explained: “FGS Ingredients Ltd is taking the precautionary step of recalling the above products and have been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“These products are sold under several different brand names at several different retail stores. Point of sale notices will be displayed where the products were sold.

“These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.”

Sainsbury’s has also pulled food items from its shelves due to allergy fears. The affected products are cereal bars that contain almonds but are not listed on the label, which could cause a serious health risk.

The cereal bars are also sold in supermarkets Tesco, Waitrose and Ocado. The Food Standards Agency explained: “Perkier Foods is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.”
Allergy UK said: “Those with an allergy to the nuts are at risk and the severity of symptoms can vary from mild to life-threatening,” and Waitrose added: “We are recalling Perkier Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate bars due to the product containing undeclared almonds. Do not consume, package up the item and return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund.”

Customers can get more information by contacting Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884, Option 4 or Perkier at hello@perkier.co.uk.
