Man Utd player ratings vs Leicester: Star scores 9/10 as Erik ten Hag vendetta hinted | Football | Sport

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s rampant Manchester United side hit Leicester City for five during a thumping League Cup fourth round victory at Old Trafford.

Casemiro opened the scoring with a stunning strike from 25 yards out, before Alejandro Garnacho added a second for the hosts not long after.

Bilal El Khannouss reduced the deficit for Leicester, but during what proved to be a frantic first half, Casemiro netted his second of the afternoon, before a deflected Bruno Fernandes free kick gave United a 4-1 lead.

Leicester refused to go down without a fight though, with Conor Coady on target in added time of the first half, but United’s three-goal cushion was restored by Fernandes shortly after the restart.

Express Sport hands out player ratings as Man United progress to the League Cup quarter-final…

Altay Bayindir – 6

Couldn’t do much about the Leicester goals, but looked a little shaky with his handling and passing when called upon. Andre Onana’s No.1 spot is under no threat as things stand.

Diogo Dalot – 7

Enjoyed himself going forwards against a lax Leicester backline and produced a stunning cross for Garnacho’s goal. One of the players auditioning for a spot in Ruben Amorim’s three-at-the-back system, should the 39-year-old get the United job.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6

Enjoyed a quiet evening against a toothless Foxes attack. Looked characteristically comfortable on the ball.

Victor Lindelof – 6

Will have enjoyed getting minutes in the legs during what was only his second start of the season.

Lisandro Martinez – 6

Operating on the left-hand side of United’s defence and looked comfortable enough.

Manuel Ugarte – 6

Slowly but surely starting to get to grips with his United team-mates after a shaky start.

Casemiro – 9

Continued his rich vein of form in front of goal. His opener the pick of the bunch from a hectic first half.

Marcus Rashford – 6

Would’ve been frustrated not to have found the net on a night when his team-mates helped themselves to a bagful.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

Waited all season for a goal and two came along at once. Will be leaned on heavily by Van Nistelrooy to produce the goods following Ten Hag’s departure.

Alejandro Garnacho – 8

A constant threat for United and took his goal well. Put to bed criticisms about his lack of productivity in recent weeks.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5

Looked a bit lost at times leading the line. With Ten Hag out the door, he’ll have to start delivering the goods soon, or else patience is likely to dwindle. Trudged off after 85 minutes looking disgruntled with his tail between his legs.

Noussair Mazraoui (Sub)- 6

Amad Diallo (Sub) – 6

Almost scored with his first touch from a stunning overhead kick.

Rasmus Hojlund (Sub) – 6

Jonny Evans (Sub) – 6

Ethan Wheatley (Sub) – N/A
